A fun dip-netting session checking in on the local Eastern Newt population! These fascinating salamanders have a very unique natural history which involves a terrestrial “eft” life stage occurring between the aquatic larval and adult form. They are particularly toxic if eaten, and fatal to some of our native predatory fish, thus they are able to inhabit aquatic environments unsuitable for most other salamanders like this pond!
