The fishing is HOT on Norfork Lake! with Hummingbird Hideaway Resort on Norfork Lake and my724outdoors.com!
Today was one of the best days I have had striped/hybrid bass fishing in a long time. I really did lose count of the number of fish I caught. I started my very early and cold morning looking at a lot of different areas. In one spot I found fish with little bait and in another area, I found a ton of bait, but no fish. Well, I headed back to the first area and the fish were still there They were scattered out and every once in a while, a small school came under me. I was sitting in roughly 80 feet of water. The fish were suspended anywhere from 20 feet down to 50 feet deep. I got to land 3 stripers/hybrids in about an hour. I was vertical jigging a 1-ounce spoon. I decided to go to the area where I had found lots of bait. As I was traveling, I looked to my left and saw a huge flock of birds in the distance. I quickly changed course and stopped close to the area where the birds were feeding. I started marking a lot of something on the bottom in 30 feet of water. I started jigging with no takers. I then switched to my Kastmaster and in 2 casts nothing. I started to think I was marking gar or carp. On my third cast of the blade bait, I was hammered twice and missed both times. I really thought I was getting gar hits. I was still retrieving the bait and finally it was hammered a third time and took off running. It was a nice 10-pound striped bass. In the next 2 hours I got to land at least 7 more striped/hybrid bass all on the Kastmaster. It was an absolute blast. There were big whites in the area, as well. The fish kept moving around and at one time I was catching them in 18 feet of water. There were only a couple of other boats out and I am sure glad I was one of them. The surface lake temperature was 44 to 45 degrees. The lake is dropping slowly and currently sits at 554.39 ft msl. The forecast for our area is looking really good with some warm temps on its way. All my fish were released on site. It sure is funny how you warm up very quickly when you are catching fish.
