Norfork Lake Fishing Report with Hummingbird Hideaway Resort and my724outdoors.com!
Today was a very good day of fishing for me. What a change a day makes! Yesterday I fished but there were no fish to be found on any of the flats I checked out. I did manage to find a few largemouth, small whites and a crappie located in 30 feet of water on the inside of a large brush pile that was in 38 feet of water. The fish really liked my 1/4 ounce pink and white spoon. Today, I stayed on the same flat all morning long. I caught fish both vertical jigging a 1 ounce spoon and casting out a 1/2 ounce kastmaster. There were striped bass, hybrid bass, white bass and a few channel cats roaming all over the flat from 15 feet of water out to 33 feet of water. They were cruising the flat quickly, but were very aggressive once you found them. I had a big fish hammer my spoon on the reel up just about at the surface. I still have a sore wrist from this fish almost yanking the pole out of my hand. I was disappointed when it came unhooked since it felt like a really big fish. I ended up landing some big & small white bass, catfish and 4 striped/hybrid bass this morning and missed 3 others stripers. The lake surface water temperature was around 66 degrees. The lake level is being held fairly stable and sits at 553.63 feet msl.
Norfork Lake emcompasses forty two miles of crystal blue freshwater with over 540 miles of undisturbed shoreline, making it one of the cleanest lakes in the nation, and also a prime bass, crappie and walleye fishing spot for anglers across the globe.
The Norfork reservoir is formed by a large concrete dam across the North Fork River four miles upstream from where the North Fork runs into the White River at the little City of Norfork, Arkansas. The dam, built for both flood control and hydro-electric generation, was completed on June 2, 1944. It also serves as a bridge across the river gorge. Two turbine generators contribute to the southwestern power grid.
